It almost sounds like money is more important than security. In these times, how can they condone that?:wtf

I was told in person, face to face, by one of the larget contractors in the U.S

It is something our government is hashing around.

That will for sure put me out to pasture, wages are all ready rock bottom.

I know on the project I worked on, the contractor was able to hhave a portion of what was a secured job, down graded and locals as well as other foregin workers were allowed to do the work.

The ones on that project were upset with the contractor because they weren't given private rooms at the hotel and didn't get the per diems we got.

The rumor in 2005 was that the construction company's were going to push down the pay and eliminate the completion bonuses.

Well the wages are dam sure being pushed down at ever corner you turn the work pays less.

But how strange, people get on here and cuss low wages & per deim, BUT!!!! they still sign those stupid contracts.:wtf

22.00 per hour, why would anyone work for that on an overseas project? Jobs all over the us for that and more. Even in Arkansaw.

:2cents In my opinion the reason they are working for 22/hr is because they can save more by stretching that 22/hr being overseas. Especially the single man with no bills.
Overseas he or she has no rent and possibly no car payment or insurance and we cant forget the perdium which covers food costs.

22/hr in the states doesnt buy a whole lot, espicially when you young dumb and you know the rest.:2cents

Fact is OBO is moving toward utilizing local contractors and only bringing US companies in for the secure portions of the project. This scope reduction will likewise reduce the number of American craftsmen. Companies know this is a mistake as local contractors will not perform to the GC's or client's expectation, however, it will take a couple of years for OBO to figure this out. Net result, contractors and US craftsmen take it in the shorts, OBO ends up in more litigation, missed deadlines, and poor product for their efforts.

I don't work overseas, but when and if I do, I will still have bills hear at home. House payment car payment ect.

It's like every where else, more profits for the contractors. If they could, they'de hire the Mexicans they claim they want to see go back to Mexico. SURE!!!

Reminds me of Pre-9/11 and pre-Moscow "station"

OBO just let an RFP in the last two weeks for a NOB project that was in two pieces--one for the non-CAA work that any nationality company could bid, and one for the CAA work that can only be bid by US companies. Sorry but I don't know for which location this RFP was for.

Justus,
Can you Clairify Rpf for us. Or what ever those initials are ?????

Pops

RFP ususally means "request for proposal", or a bid.

Justus

Yep, "Request For Proposal". And just because the gov't ask for an RFP from contractors doesn't even mean they will award it. Just look at the Fiji bid last year.

I saw locals in Tblisi and Yerevan wearing house shoes (womens) in the snow 4" or more, deep. The one in Yerevan was fuzzy pink ones. I was told the locals were all given boots when they signed on, and they took them home the first night and never brought them back. Ha.
