MrBOOCH post "movies on the road" got me thinking a good topic might be what do people do for audio and visual entertainment when on the road. With the advent of large and cheap hard drives, portable hard drives and MP3 & MPEG players there are a lot of options available today. What MrBOOCH I think was referring to is called Ripping where you take a DVD encode it and compress it so it can be stored easily. Now days you are able to take a full length movie and compress it to 700 megabits and still have decent quality. With today's storage devices one can keep several movies on hand. The other option is to let other people do it for you. There are numerous places on the web that you can download the latest movies and TV programs that someone has already ripped and made available for sharing. You all have heard of Napster and Kazaa and there demise, the whole copyright issue is another topic in it's self. I used to travel with a portable DVD player but these days I use my notebook to connect directly to a TV, between the computer hard drive and my IPOD I conveniently carry a lot of entertainment.
So what do others do when on the road for Media entertainment.

I never leave home without the PS2 I bought the small unit. It plays my DVD's and MP3. I still drag DVD plastic around. But I did shit can the plastic music disk's for the I Pod. I got to know how to compress my DVD down so I can put it on a had drive. Ideally a 100 gig drive would be lighter than plastic, cause extra baggage weight comes into play when you hop on a foreign carrier.

Who would have thought just a couple of years ago that we won't even consider carrying around CD's & DVD's.
