I am being transferred from my current post in Afghanistan to Kunduz. Anyone have info on the conditions there? thanks.
I've not been to Kunduz but I'm about 100 miles west of there in Mazar-e-Sharif. There's a big NATO and/or German base over at Kunduz, that's where all the flap was when they ordered in the planes to bomb those two fuel trucks and supposidly killed a bunch of civilians.
Mazar is quiet and it would probably even be safe enough to walk around the city--although I've not done it and won't. Surrounded by mountains (see the pic at the bottom of my post), they are deep in snow already. It's always windy here so I would think the same is true there.
Good luck with the new assignment!

Spent a number of Months in Kunduz, on one of the FOB's, both during winter and summer.
Miles and miles of nothing. The city is not safe and if you can keep out of it then do. The Germans have a large base there and most things are available at the PX, including beer and wine at very good prices.
Dyncorp has a training facility there and the guys there are very helpfull.
The DOS also have a training camp there and once I had made contact with the guys they were more than willing to give assistance. Although a lot of demining has taken place there, the land outside the airport perimiter is still not safe. So don't go jogging there.
If there are any spifics that you would like to know, give me a shout.
Two extreems there. Very cold and very hot. Also have frequent earthquakes.
