Hey fellow Rat Packers,
What can I say about Guam, it has everything you need. Do your home work before you sign up. You will have to pay taxes, cost of lioving is about 10% higher than Hawaii (DOD COLA is 24%), if you have to cover your own housing it will be around Hawaii price range. Prices for food and gas stay pretty high, if you are able to get a CAC card with BX/NEX priv it would be a great help, mainly due to the cost control. Flights back to the mainland are high and flights out to PI are reasonable(Less than 500).
Work wise everything is geared for the build up and there should be steady work for the next few years. It is mainly DOD work so it is straight forward and not too much hassle.
Overall the island has positives and negatives just like any other location. Do your homework and work out your contract prior to shipping your household items. Relocation cost are about 40-60% higher to ship your items back once you get there.
I left the Island about 2 months ago and I was there for over a year. I have a small boy and cost of flights and grandparents were a big influence for me to move the family back to the Mainland. The Island is great but each of us have our own unique situations.
Post up if there is any specific info that you guys are looking for.

I'm guessing that Japan doesn't really want to lose the money the military brings, much like the Philipines felt after they kicked out the military back in the early 90s.
Also the DOS is dropping the COLA again for us in January even though the dollar is dropping against the Euro.

US had warned Japan on reneging....:nono:
http://rokdrop.com/2009/11/04/obama-administration-warns-japan-over-reneging-on-okinawa-base-deal/
The total cost is currently estimated at $10.7 billion, with Japan contributing the most at $6.09 billion...
They knew they will lose revenue on top of the 6.09B they offered to get rid of the marines....:wtf
