Would you go? What amount of money would it take to get you there? Personally, I would be scared to go, but I would refuse more out of spite for what they are doing to our Marines. I wanted to at first, but now I don't want to even help them any more.

There will never be enough money to go to Afghan or Iraq , because they are getting too many F.N.G.'s to go for too little money.
But I suppose it is a great oppertunity, if you are making $9. an hour in the states, and your goal in life is to watch a water pump run, or fill up the diesel generater.

Odd you should mention that, I've heard the most dangerous place to be there is the road to and from the airport.

My Brother was an MSG there, one of the original "Dirty Dozen" they called themselves. He, along with several other people, told me that "WE" used Turks and Pakis to do the electrical, security TSS, building of posts, and basic remodel construction on Sadam's Palace to turn it into the new Embassy. Well fuck it anyhow...I guess there are no people needing work anymore in the USA, and the only ones making money is Dick Cheney and his puppet boss Bush...KBR is making a fortune, and the Iraqi's are dropping like flies, not to mention our troops getting killed daily. WHY??? Why didn't we finish in Afghanistan first, got Osama Bin Fharteen, and then direct our efforts to other key issues...lets let nuke 'em till they glow mentality is what is now costing us our troops, $89 Billion ?!?!?!, and for what? OIL, bottom line. Lets just say that, NO, I ain't going, screw them.

Check the news, YAHOO!!!!!! Roadside bomb kills two US workers in Iraq. Do you want to be next? There is money everywhere, why work where you wear a target on your back. My experience, when I was traveling to and from the mancamp we did not ride in armored cars we rode in regular cars, granted an armored car is not 100% safe but at least you might have a chance. Tell me one company that is going to provide that kind of protection for its workers. You all can have it.

Above all else, let's not forget our brave soldiers out there down in the dirt, doing the job, and not getting shit for it.
They are TRUE AMERICANS.

Look here is my sope box on Iraq. Before I got here, I was like a lot of you and payed to much attion to the news. Well that is where all of us are wrong, Yes it takes a lot of money to get someone over here, even for the soildgers they get more money over here than at home. This place is not that bad, and the bright side is that you get a paid vacation any where in the world every 12 weeks. What job is going to do that? Look there are some draw backs, like you have to hide to drink and you work 7 days a week. The good thing is there are things to drink over here and there are a new supply of girls every 4 mounths. Look if, I was here on my clerance my magic number would be $230000. But I am not, so my magic number was 65. that is the number of days I was short on my 330 for last year. Let me tell you, I have now have my 330 and if all goes well I will keep it untill I decide that I have made enuff money and I am ready to go home. So once agine it all comes down to, what is your magic number. We all have one or we would not be working over seas. I will be the first one to sign up for that wonder job in Bagdad if the money is right. And if you are wondering the number right now is $160000, that is what is keeping me here right now. :AR15

this is actually a closer race than I would have thought.
and now here is a case of where EVERYBODY who replied to this is RIGHT.
I am sure there is enough money to get me to go, but it ain't likely that they would pay it. And it would have a lot of zeros in it.

Nothing but respect for the people that are their or going to either "theater of operation". To get me to go, it would have to be enough to not only convince me to go, but to convince my wife to LET me go, though :cheers

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe any money you make in a war zone is tax free. 330 or not. At least thats how it worked in Kosovo. :cheers
:banghead The only way to get the tax break, either here in Afganistan, or Iraq, is to get your 330.
It's what"s you make of it men. I always think of the greater good. More than happy with pay, working & living conditions here in AFG :AR15 Just be "smart" with company choice and even more importantly when outside the wire. By the way a small bit for us men in "Theater" below.

Due to the lack of deaths in the last year for contractors most companies over here MINE included are still requiring 60+ hour work weeks but eliminating our FALA, cutting our danger and hardship pay to 40 hours a week and cutting our salaries by an average of 40K...:wtf We still get attacked every day here in Taji (10 Min NW of Baghdad by Blackhawk) We get incoming rockets, mortars and car bombs daily. * moron insurgents tried climbing the fences at two of our gates Sat AM all had on bomb vests and satchel charges. They are with ALLAH now.. How is it the xtra hours aren't as dangerous as the first 40?? These assclowns just re won the TACSWACAA contract for 5 more years and 10 BILLION dollars and are cutting OUR PAY!! I was just offered another year and told 'em to go pack sand.. Lockheed is paying 230K+ for the same work in the IZ where they have BEER!!! It's been an experience, but It'll take a cool quarter mil to keep me in this shiite hole another year.....:AR15

Kind of funny.... the percentages of those willing to go about 25% to those not willing to go 75%....
the percentages of those willing to go for 30-70 dollars an hour about 25%to those expecting much more 75%.
With 75% percent not even willing to go, I would think I should only be soliciting the advice of the 25% willing to come to Iraq in order to get realistic wage expectations. If I can exceed their expectations then I have accomplished something
I am beginning to think all the objections I have encountered, isn't really at all about craftsmenship, clearances, benefits or the various other smokescreens. It doesn't matter how much the pay goes up.... It all comes down to if you got the cajones to go to iraq. 75% says they don't.

Favorite Movie Quote, also from that movie and applies here "get busy living, or get busy dying"
Going isn't about money, to me, it's about TRULY supporting our troops.

Hardline Rob Why don't you just go ahead and tell everyone what you're top dollar is and get it over with. As a business man I'm sure you have firgured out what you can afford to pay and still make a healthy profit.

Hell yeah!!!!! I work in Iraq for the right amount of moola!!!!!!
I would also think of the contractor... I know several people that have worked over there and they all say the same thing ( DO WHAT YOUR TOLD AND DO NOT CFOCK AROUND YOU'LL BE ALL RIGHT) Hey six months down there for the right amount could put some weight to your piggy bank.

I beg to differ with you on the best service!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is that the brotherhood of the waiters and bartenders Association ???
Just "KIDDING" I can not and would not compare any service of the military. As I was an unfortunate victum of a broken leg when it was my time to go and swear in to the CORPS OF MARINES. AT that time I was so full of poop that no other service was good enough.. Actually still think that way but know better.. It's not the band it's what you make of it... I Salute all that have served , and are serving , but most of all the guy's that were in NAM I give them an EYES RIGHT !!!!!
Place is great , good food when your out and about, Beer cheap if you but it at the resturants or the corner store.. The best one for me is well I never learned how to spell it but you can order it by saying chen-tao. Price at RR and CS 2 rmb to 5 rmb .. At the PIG or at Maggies its 40 rmb for the mug and 15 to 30 for the 12 oz. bot. Good nice and smooth. they have almost every other kinds but .. The exchange rate was 7.99 now I think it's 7.91 ..
To make it ezzzy just put your mind on EIGHT (8) too ONE (1) thats 8 of theirs to 1 of ours. 10 rmb = $1.25 US abouts by the way thats what it will cost you to get into a taxi.. May I ask were in Beijing are you going to work.. Send me a pri message.. Oh messages are common here you could go to one of the rub and tugs for about 160 to 300 rmb or you could go out you'll run into a massous or is that moose I forget , anyway they will come to your room for a message from about 300 rmb to 1000 rmb.. Just depends on your bargaining skills and how long of a message you want... The hair cuts are pretty good here , they first wash your hair no exceptions , then they will message your head and shoulders for what seems hours finally they cut your hair and style it for you all for around 30 rmb thats about $3.75 US what a deal... There are many places to see here and shopping is great but this is the land of fake so beware .. You can find good things here and you can find originals but your going to pay..If you have to get something mailed here US post go globel express get here in 4 to 5 days price $9 to $???? but if you go reg mail will take 3 to 4 months and air will take 3 to 4 weeks.. Cabbellas will ship here via UPS $100.00 but it gets cold here so uncle ben wont keep you warm.. The people here are great and usually just mind their own buss. Now the taxi drivers are another thing they will pick you up (99% of them don't speak english other then MFER.) and ask you where too if you have a bussiness card show it to them and pay attention if they keep looking at the card for more then 10 seconds they do not know where the fuck your going but will tell you they do and will take you on a ride might get you close and youstill have to pay.. If the driver has a cell phone most do get him to call the place .. If you do not have a bussiness card and don't know how to get there don't go.. It's fun here you got Mic Dees KFC DQ Pizza Hut Pete's Tex Mex TGI Fri Sizzlers Walmart it's all here.. Becareful and maybe I'll see you
I do not know how the last two post became one they are different one is on service the other is to a guy on the way to beijing china... :wtf :wtf :wtf

I was in Iraq twice, and Afghanistan 2, guess that I am in it for the fun, and the money wasn't all that bad either on the 2nd time around. And as far as the service goes , I was with the 82nd in the army, so that should let ya'll know why I consider it fun. :2cents
