Hello!
Just signed my husband up for a subscription to. He is a master electrician currently working in southern Iraq with KBR. Though he had served overseas while in the military–yrs ago–this is his first overseas gig as a civilian contractor and he been there about 4 mths. He was brought up through the IBEW–Union and was a former contractor himself who specialized in explosion proof, natural gas and classified locations. And been a road warrior for about 15 yrs–even with his own company. He tried a stationary job after we had to close up shop, but wasn’t for him, he likes to get in and get it done and get on his way again. He doesn’t have a lot of nice things to say about the current company he is working with–though that seems to be a common theme, he does however seem to be enjoying the work and the adventure of it all–says there are a lot of great guys over there, and a few bad seem to have spoiled it for the bunch. Anyrate, anyone familiar with KBR I am sure are familiar with the recent threats of cutbacks–though this has not as yet seemed to have affected the electricians, but writing seems clearly written on the wall come August or September–so I am hoping to find hubby his next gig–and hope he finds the time himself to make his way in here.

You've signed him up as a subscriber and that's a good first step!
If "flwilson" is a real name, we'd recommend you change it to one more anonomous.

if he dosent have a clearance his best bet is to stay in logcap. there are other companies over there now that picked up contracts besides KBR. good luck

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. =) The handle is not his name–though was thinking to go with Joe the Toe–pvt joke–after ya mentioned it- but trying to figure out how to change it. Thanks for the logcap tip–he is still keeping pretty busy with KBR but it never hurts to have more than one egg in the basket as they say. ;) You all have a really great site here. Loads of useful info.

Thanks I am digging into the old and new posts to see what I can find. We’d heard the pie is getting broken up in Iraq and Afghanistan. Seems as if hubby will have work until end of August or so–then it is kind of up in the air for some. I have applied at several other places just in case but believe many of them are stock piling resumes right now. Have heard somewhere or another that the harvest of contracts are often in the fall? For those of you who have been doing this line of work for some time, is this true?

The contracts were actually re-awarded in April, 2008 after the original awards were protested by IAP and Contingency Management Group in 2007.
--KBR
--Flour has teamed with ITT Systems
--DynCorp has teamed with CH2M Hill and Taos Industries
The partner companies also hire direct for the LOGCAP program, so check their sites too. Good luck, Grantlee.
i found the post had to copy and paste

Wow Jeavalanche, thank you for your help in locating it. I am a researcher by profession-- so I had read several articles which reflected that it was going to be split up between the big 3-as I understand it that is KBR, Fluor and Dyncorp. I am not wholly familiar with all the subs as yet though. I do know that IAP and Ingletts and Stubbs are hiring and I think Aecom is also subbing with Fluor. But I will check on the other subs mentioned. Hubby likes working with the DOD as it is familiar to him. He does not have a security clearance save for the CAC through the DOD so for now we are focusing on Logcap. While he was in the military many-many yrs ago he had a Top secret clearance and so I am researching to see what it will take to get him some level of clearance again. Thanks again for your help.

For him to get a clearance, a company will have to sponsor him. Assuming he has had no "irregularities" since he held his TS it shouldn't be a big problem. The hard part will be finding the contractor.

Jeavalanche & Javar Bear,
Just checking in on the forums for hubby and wanted to thank you both for your help again. Hubby did get on with Fluor and left Iraq and is now in Afghanistan. It’s a bit rougher Afghanistan way but there does seem to be a bit more job security at least for now.
