Kitterman worked in Iraq for years for several companies, including Houston-based KBR and Kuwait-based Peregrine, the latter company's president, Dennis Wright said in an e-mail.

"Jim was an expert in Iraq," Wright said, "perhaps serving more days on the ground in Iraq than any other American."

Kitterman was a former U.S. Navy Chief Petty officer, Wright said.

"He loved his work in Iraq and believed he was making a positive contribution and difference in helping Iraqis regain their country," Wright said.

A bomb struck a convoy of U.S. officials and civilian contractors on a visit to a construction site in western Iraq, killing a soldier and two U.S. government employees, officials said Tuesday.

A U.S. military statement said two other civilians working for the U.S. Department of Defense were wounded in Monday's attack near Falluja, 50 km (30 miles) west of Baghdad

Guys, I feel for the familys of these folks killed in the war with Iraq. Yes they were killed in the war, like it are not, our politicians can say what they want -war is war, if you are military are civilian!!! Any time you leave home for Iraq are Afghanistan - you may not come back to your family, do not kid your self.
I ask you all to set down and give lots of thought before you go, is it worth a chance of loosing your life?? Is your life worth more then 50 bucks an hr. mine dam sure is. Even 65 or 70 is not an excessive amount for these areas -
the talk of 30 and 35% up lift, is crazy.. TALK....:wtf I tell you folks, the dam contractors are getting big time rich in those areas - they should be made to pay a fair wage. Decent pay, lodging, meals, per deim, r&r, I dont mean 4 guys to a tent either, if they need the work done right they should pay for it. I have army and navy time - I did not have a choice then, but I do now.

Proud to be an american craftsman.

I am in baghdad and without a doubt, you are right as right can be. However, with the little amount of work available out there, I fear that it will get worse. Add the military and civilian cutbacks we civilians are getting more vunerable. Hard to say what the solution is. I also am an American craftsman and veteran during a nastier war, but still damn proud of both. Go get them Mex Fish Guide...

There is absolutely no substitute for knowing what to do!

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Five American security contractors were detained in connection with the killing of another American contractor last month inside Baghdad's Green Zone, sources with knowledge of the investigation told CNN Saturday.
Iraqi and U.S. personnel took the five into custody in an operation inside the Green Zone before dawn on Friday, according to an Iraqi official involved in the investigation into the killing of James Kitterman. The five, who have not yet been charged, were being held by Iraqi security forces Saturday at a jail inside the heavily protected zone, he said.
The troops also confiscated weapons during the raid on the suspects' firm at about 4 a.m. (11 a.m. ET), said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The names of the suspects and the company they work for were not released. The U.S. military declined comment and referred questions to the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. Embassy officials did not immediately respond to request for comments.
Kitterman was found bound, blindfolded and fatally stabbed in a car in the district, formally known as the International Zone, on May 22. The 60-year-old Houston, Texas, resident owned a construction company that operated in Iraq.
The five suspects knew the victim, a source inside the Green Zone familiar with the investigation said. Both the Iraqi and the Green Zone sources noted that the FBI has been involved in the investigation from the start.
Once the suspects are charged and referred to trial, the case would be sent to Iraq's Central Criminal Court, the Iraqi official said. If that happens, it would be the first time U.S. citizens were tried in Iraq since the United States returned the country's government to the Iraqis.

An Iraqi judge is dismissing charges brought against five American contractors in the May 22 slaying of American contractor Jim Kitterman, whose body was found blindfolded and bound in a SUV parked in the Green Zone of Baghdad. Before starting Janus Construction last year, Kitterman had worked for Dick Cheney's old firm Kellogg, Brown & Root/Halliburton and another connected to KBR/Halliburton contracts in Iraq and the Philippines, Peregrine Development International. According to CNN, the reasons for detentions of the Americans went from suspicion of involvement in the death of Kitterman to possessing unregistered weapons.

On June 9, 2009, WMR reported: "Four American employees of Corporate Training Unlimited (CTU) of Fayetteville, North Carolina, including its president, were arrested by Iraqi law enforcement authorities under a new U.S.-Iraqi security agreement that strips U.S. contractors of immunity under Iraqi law. A fifth American, who works for another firm was also arrested by the Iraqis in connections with Kitterman's death. According to CTU's website, 'In 2003, CTU provide PSD 'Personal Security Detail' service to Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR MER Baghdad) top executives.' According to the Fayetteville Observer, the same day that Kitterman's body was found another CTU contractor, Larry Young, was found dead in the Green Zone from what was 'suspected' to have been a rocket attack. CTU's president is Donald Feeney, Jr., and former Delta Force, was, according to the Fayetteville Observer, arrested along with his son, Donald Feeney III, and two other CTU employees, Micah Milligan and Mark Bridges. The fifth man, Jason Jones, is reported to have worked for 'another firm.'"

UPDATE 1X. WMR has confirmed with an informed source that Jim Kitterman was due to return to the United States prior to his assassination in the Green Zone, the only reported assassination carried out against an American in the heavily-fortified sector since the U.S. invasion of the country in 2003. Kitterman was called "indispensable" to the operations of the U.S. embassy located in the Green Zone. The release of the five American suspects came as the U.S. Congress-mandated U.S. Commission on Wartime Contracting reported that more than $13 billion in contract costs in Iraq and Afghanistan are under question by government auditors and that some of the problems point to widespread fraud and corruption. The commission cited KBR/Halliburton as one of the worst offenders.
