I am wondering if anyone has an opinion about visiting or working in Indonesia.
I am new to this site and have been watching the posts and replies. This site can be very helpful to the membership.
Thanks in advance for any information that you could forward.

I worked there in 2005. I decided in the first 2 weeks i was there that it was THE place i wanted to live. I had to get rid of some baggage before i moved there though...ex-wife. I currently live about 20min. west of Jakarta and would live nowhere else. I ended up marrying a girl from there and we have a 1 year old daughter.
As for working there...it would depend on the company...which one are you thinking of?
One thing that is not good is the non- working visa's there.
you can only get a 30 day non-extendable visa and the price is $25 USD. Every 30 days you must leave the country. I just fly to Singapore and return on the next flight. That flight is less than $200 USD
I have a lot of information about things like that ...if you are interested just let me know and feel free to ask questions.

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure about the company. I know that there is work there in the future, so I was looking for members with past experience.
Does anyone know about Grunley-Walsh? I heard that that they were connected to another company called First Kuwaiti.
Thanks for the info.

Here's a link I found, looks like they partnered up last year. Article is too long to post.

Grunley-Walsh International was bought out by a First Kuwaiti front guy (Lebanese American) last year and the company is now known as Aurora but still operating under the GWI name for OBO contracts. GWI is "partnered" with FK on 3 projects right now.
First Kuwaiti is a true SHIT company. Do a search on this site and you will find plenty of reasons to stay away from them. They are nothing but a cheap scam company. Make no mistake on the embassy projects GWI has...it IS the Lebanese running the projects; I will never understand how OBO allows this happen.

It happens because it goes to lowest bidder like it always does. Just think if they actually took someone who bid a little higher but had rats as the worker bees. It might actually get done right and on time or ahead of time.

About a year ago i went to Surabaya Indonesia to visit a friend of mine that is the team lead there for the CST's and CAG's. GW was on thier 3 PM and still did not have the building permit. From what I hear...things are still going along at a snails pace.
Surabaya is a very nice city and EVERYTHING is very cheap!!!!
I echo what Justus wrote. Grunley Walsh has changed their name (Aurora), evidently trying to hide what is going on, etc. It is hard for a leopard to change its' spots - if it walks like a duck, sounds like a duck, etc. etc.
Grunley Walsh(Aurora)/FKTC is also working to "sub out" the various American staffing positions to other companies - potential workers need to be aware of this and make sure to find out where the money is coming from. If a person must work for them - then at least make them pay dearly for your services - at least double your normal asking price. If First Kuwaiti wants the job then make them pay for it. As Justus stated, the Aurora office in the States is only a "front".
From what can be gathered, all the GW/FKTC projects (Libreville, Surabaya and Jeddah) are moving at a snail's pace and OBO is apparently OK with it.
Beware of this company.
