Hey Guys and Gals,
I had to leave Germany for a week, to take my Belarussian wife and American/Belarussian son to Warsaw Poland for their Visa interview. We have to go to Poland because Minsk, Belarus cannot handle all of the people and data.
We have over the past year, gathered every shred of paper concering birth certificates, marriage certificates, bank records showing all my and her accounts and dates they were opened and quantities, letters from friends and associates recognizing our marriage as legitimate, letters from my employer, detailing my salary and wage package, letters and forms showing that I had a legitimate means of supporting them... medical reports and tests, police forms, embasy forms filled out, and all of this had to be notorized and translated from Russian for my wifes stuff, appointments set up through the embassies, forms filled out and shot back and forth, and sent to me here from the States to hand carry from here to Belarus, and then the whole 12 pounds of paper, wife and 8 month old baby, travel to Warsaw Poland for one week for their one day interview. I missed a weeks wages, had to get a hotel, airfare back and forth, etc. Including air fare, hotel, food, diapers and wages, it cost me $5000!!
The day of the interview we were ushered in to the consulate window area, because we had an appointment 3 months ahead of time, and all they wanted was our Visa application forms, marriage certificate, her birth certificate, and my 864 support form. The then made us pay $380 dolllars, and called us back up. They said everything was in order, took my wife's oath that everything was honest, and asked my wife to sit down. Now the hammer falls...
My wife worked for a few months in Bahrain, and a year in the UAE, where I met her in 2003. They needed a police form from the so called holy muslim sultantate of Bahrain in order for her to get the Visa. They suggested I locate a Bahrain consulate to get this...well, I went over to the American services window, and the nearest one is in Berlin, so I called them, and they could not help, so I called Bahrain, and they said I had to come to Bahrain to get it, and the process could take 6 months. I was pretty upset, so I went back in to see the consular...heres where it gets great.
I looked on the Bahrain website, and you have to be a Resident of Bahrain to get a police report, keep this in mind.
I told the consular and his boss I have a TS clearance and who I work for, and what I do, and in order to get married my wife and I both went through intensive security checks...my wife had a pile of paper to fill out, and numerous interviews with the RSO in Belarus. I was recently up for and approved for my 5 year review for my TS, and my wife had to fill out the SPF 86 Secret clearance review form. That took several months to accomplish, with interviews on both sides. Many of you have secret clearences...my wife should have a clearance, as they pretty much looked at our lives under a microscope. I told them about missing work and wages, about how this would be a hardship for us, and that she was not a resident of the holy rag head sultantate of Bahrain. Well, they took this into consideration, and aggreed with me on all points, apologised to me for the Bahrain scare, seeing she was there on a tourist visa, and told me to come back at 3 PM, and pick up the passport. She got the Visa, and they didn't even look at the rest of the 12 pounds of paper. I will always carry this stuff, because I know they will ask for it someday. Murphy's Law. I know they will look for it all when we get home. She should get her permanent visa in about 2-6 months.
What pisses me off is the present administration's view that if you have been living and working (stealing from the people of the US) illegally in the US for the past ten years, they are considering giving these people amnesty, and official citizenship status.
I went through the whole affair legally, and we almost didn't get the Visa...it would have been easier to sneak accross the border from Mexico or Canada.
Don't worry Ratbro, just have the paperwork and forms, and let them know about your clearance, and it should go ok.
Good Luck
