View Full Version : Question to any KBR guys out there.....RE misdemeanor DUI

Turret1971

Posted yesterday, good military and civilan work history, HERE'S THE "PROBLEM". Got a misdemeanor (?) DUI Nov.'07- pulled over by cop, blew hot, plead guilty, lost licence for 45 days, paid fines etc..
Now have license back, I'm applying to KBR for a NON DRIVING POSITION (warehouseman, security, billeting). My record is totally clean except for this infraction. I spoke w/ KBR h.r. in TX yesterday, told the woman annonymously, and she said it shouldn't be a problem.
Maybe I'm worrying too much, maybe not, not sure if the h.r. lady was shutting me up or what. Not proud of this fact at all, but I'd like to hear from KBR people who know my chances of getting picked up vs. rejected.

THANKS GUYS-

I'm not sure that the company is going to be a problem, it's DISCO the Clearance issuing institution that could have a problem with it.

I bet 99+% of the KBR jobs in Iraq don't require a security clearance.

I've been at both BIAP and Terminal 2 in Dubai when the KBR people are loading up...Dude, if you can breath I think they will hire you, I don't think a DUI is going to take you out of contention.

You can always get a job with General Dynamics Land Division here in Iraq. One of their job requirements is that you be totally bizzare looking - the more tattoos and piercings the better. A DUI would probably help you get on with them.

WTF. I have submitted my resume to over 400 positions at KBR over the last 6weeks and I have gotten nothing. I must confess I have no military experience and I do not have a security clearance. So if KBR will hire a warm body, I must one dead MF.

If what you say is true, how does one get on w/KBR, because their friggin web site career data base damn sure does not seem to be the way.

Hell, fellow, I even applied for "labor" jobs, that clearly indicated no experience, and was turned down for that!

The way they work it is usually on a case by case bases. I have seen it go both ways. The main thing is not to try and hide it. They are having trouble keeping all the positions they have there full, so my opinion is that if you have taken care of all your obligations that what she told you is probably true.

Are you getting into the system where it shows the jobs by requisition number. There are currently about 593 positions in Iraq for KBR. There are 43 electrical positions. All the jobs are listed with a requisition number and if you put that on there and apply for a specific job they should get back to you.
I am due to process on the 30th and know two others who have been called.
So go to KBRjobs.com and set up a profile and it will let you see the req'd jobs.

i was with kbr in iraq for 2 1/2 years and i met many folks with sordid pasts. i seriously doubt that a DUI would DQ you from employment.

good luck.

I am ex kbr..proud to say "ex".. and I wouldnt want to work there again if you paid me..lol.. its all a game..for one.. online websites are not where you look to get hired..i know it seems as if that is the logical place..but they have over a million and one resumes.. using complicated software to track the most keyworded resumes to call back on... did you know that/? so your resumes should be a carbon copy of the Assignment description with a few minor changes here and there.. thats free.

I have 50 different recruiter emails and phone numbers to the Major companies hiring right NOW.. email me for more info.. [email]cheers

I have to say - :blahslap

Most HR people do not know the difference between a master electrician and a plumber, if you do not spell out the job id#, and fit your resume to the job description - it will probably fall through the hands into a round filing cabnet.

Try to use names of projects managers and hiring managers - personal contact will win out most of the time. If a person develops a "bad" repution along the line some where - it will probably follow them.

mikefromkuwait - if as a member of this site you have that amount of contact information - do as others of us have done for several years - share the information. After all that is the name of the game here, help each other with job information.:fauches:

Take care

HR...is spam like this guy is posting allowed on here? He's a head hunter; if he's not going to come inside and post any jobs, ban him. Hell, I work hard to share jobs and contacts on here, for everyone...I don't like this dickhead sending us to his website to pay for info that is surely to be inside our own site. And I don't like him advertising his personal email address either.

Well I am not a head hunter.. sorry, I am a guy who has lived overseas for 4 yrs and knows how to get a job. Made alot of connections along the way.. I am sorry that i didnt give all my information for free but i think that what i have is very valuable so there is a small fee. What i do give for free is how to get a job with the emails and phone numbers i provide.. having this info is not a 100% guarantee .. you have to know the dance.. what to say and not say..how to submit your information in the correct way. Get pass the phone interviews. Security checks... Neg. Contract pay.. on and on..i give this ALL AWAY for free.. i am not out here to hustle someone or take advantage of anybody. I have answered questions on here in a beneficial way, so where is the spam?? Spam is UNWANTED information.. spam is NOT information that is WANTED...and I only asked that people email me for additional info Or visit my site which is already in my profile. Taking my info off will only hurt the main purpose of this site.. to help people land jobs.. so... but its ur site..

You seem sincere enough enogh and convincing.
What is wrong with your approach is this:

START YOUR OWN SITE!!

Oh wait.........you did! You were kind enough to provide the links.

What irks me is the gall you have to try and parlay your shitty spot in Kuwait into a money making idea off the backs of a whole cadre of working mens boots. I do not say you have not earned what you have, just that you are barking up the wrong tree by advertising for FREE!! on a pay per view website. Who the F555K do you consider yourself to be to tell us what a loss we suffer??

Leave your E.spot at home when you come on here because the hungry will be fed by employers, not by headhunters.

Yes, Take his info off the site! Hurt us I say!! He is full of shiite! (shiite, get it?)
Mike(if you are stupid enough to call yourself out online), you must realize that your puny and weak 4 years, holds not a candle to the combined 746 years and 2.5 months(and growing!) of oversaes knowledge and experience a guy can get from RatPackInternational.com
(sorry rats, had to promote us=:~)
Honest Mike, any guy worth his salt would not attempt to use anothers site to promote himself or his (cha-ching!) great idea. Others have had the great idea before you and it is called theratpack.

Better luck with the glow in the dark stick and the fishing buddy! :cheers

I do apologise for getting involved in that manner.

Mike, it just struck me wrong to see so many posts promoting another web site on ratpack. We have to deal with spammers everyday, sometimes dozens of unwanted solicitations! We don't like to see that on this site, and have not allowed others to do the very thing you are doing, no matter how innocent it may seem to you.

Having said that, it was not the right way to go about telling you that. Sorry for being so harsh with my responses. It was unprofessional of me. I hope you can understand where I am coming from. I understand you are just trying to do your thing.

I want to apologise to all the true rats for getting involved in such a childish manner with mfk.
I was pretty pissed at the blatant mining of old posts to promote another website, but that does not excuse me for responding as I did.

That being said, this is a good argument for anonymity. Potential employers could come on here and see something so foolish and say " Hey, mfk, we don't hire guys like that!" Do NOT use your real name as your handle.

Bottom line: I should have followed the proper chain of command and procedure.

Hello, everyone,

I just registered to this site but haven't become a subscriber, yet. I was all set to go to Iraq for KBR and I didn't pass their W.A.B.I. test. It was a really screwed up test from what I could tell. This was very unfortunate since I am un-employed right now.

I told the recruiter who I have been talking with on and off for over a year that I just went to a KBR forum and there was a guy there complaining that he just spent two years working for KBR in Iraq and since he failed the WABI they won't let him go back. She said that happens.

I have to wait six months to take it again and I'm wondering just exactly what is the deal with this test. I was a little conservative with my answers and probably spent too much time "over thinking" the questions. I don't understand why they base hiring someone on that test alone. Anyone know? I was a shoe in except for that.

In any case from what I have been able to find out KBR is pretty much it if you're a truck driver and want to work overseas or are there others? Does anyone know? It seems the vast majority of jobs are for skilled trades such as plumbers, electricians, IT experts etc. with only KBR doing any hiring in the Transportation field.

That's what I'm trying to find out before I subscribe. Being un-emplyed with the economy getting worse by the day I can't see spending the money if KBR owns the trasportation field overseas.

Thanks in advance.

If I remember correctly PWC also ran convoys in Iraq. I don't have any contact information for them though.

All the convoys that deliver our material have Arab drivers. The PWC convoys are Arabs too (from what I've seen). PSDs do almost all the escort duties nowadays.

transportation dept. don't have an email contact, but you can easily find it. I just don't have time to search right now. Also do not know if they will really require the education background they state in the offer. It's worth a shot to talk to them.

I'm not looking for something "free". I was basically trying to find out if this site does have info on driving jobs overseas. If it doesn't why would I want to pay to get information on jobs overseas that I wouldn't be qualified for?

I don't know what the abbreviation's in the "advice" I got for "free" mean anyway so what good does it do me. I haven't gotten anything for "free" and didn't expect anything for free. I just don't want to waste my money.

Now hold on just a second everybody!

This man is asking questions and he is a potental rat, and deserves to have it explained.

What Mex means by "come inside" is to make yourself a vested rat on RPI, and yes that does cost something. What no one has expained to you is that RPI is not a head hunter hunting ground and neither is it a job board or recruiter place. We don't hand out jobs to subscribers. What we ARE is a very tight community of hundreds of rats that work internationally. Ifanyone has a job opening, rats will know about it first and will post it here, sometimes even before the company puts the word out on the street. Hundreds and hundreds of jobs have been posted on RPI in just the last couple of years, but don't forget that RPI is NOT a job board......just a bunch of rats who take care of each other. This is why we will not allow spammers, head hunters, resume collecters, or other web sites that try to do what RPI does on this site.:nono:

It ain't in the rats best interest.

What you get when you "come inside" is entry to a world of very experienced men and women that have traveled the world and have a combined overseas experience of .
You can ask any question and guys like The Wild Rover or Justus will answer you personally. The Headrat can and does work miracles of techno funkology and MexFish is one guy that will stand before congress if need be and tell them how the cow ate the cabbage.

We welcome you here.
You are a newbie and as such look around and read posts and threads all over the site for a while. After you get a better understanding of what we do in here, you will understand our natural inclination to assert that you be serious about being a rat. Lots of guys are not serious and just want to get work overseas and get in on the pay, and thats fine, but they aren't rats. Rats are everywhere and will give you information you CANNOT get anywhere else! Job conditions, living conditions, pay rates and food availability, what to take with you and what you will get thrown in an Algerian prison for, ec. ad nauseum!

SO.....
Don't get pissed or offended. Thicken your skin and become a tough rat. These are real working men, so they are just rougher than you may b used to. We have seen a lot of ugliness and sometimes death. Many have been shot at and all have been somewhat inebriated in a hole in the wall bar in some far off place.

We do have tales to tell.................

come on in.

Thank You Mex,

You just answered all my questions. I knew this wasn't a job board and surmised it was exactly what you stated it was but wanted to find out for sure.

It is EXACTLY the type of site I was looking for. I want to know what REALLY is going on overseas as far as living conditions etc. not just what someone wants to tell me to get me over there.

Also, I can't believe that Iraq and Ashcanistan are the only two places where you can drive overseas and I can't believe that KBR is the only one hiring truck drivers with Class A CDL's.

My feelings weren't hurt and I also realize that that when writing on a forum it is easy to come on as an asshole without meaning to do so. I've done it myself on other forums. I'm not exactly the most "diplomatic" person myself.

I just got fired from my last job for "basically" telling the terminal supervisor that his safety program was for little girls. That's in a nutshell. There was more to it than that. I was pretty nice about it too. I didn't swear or raise my voice at him. I just told him some of their rules were insulting and he STILL fired me "because HE was insulted by MY being insulted".

You can expect me to become one of your fellow Rats in the very near future. I'll probably fit right in. I want all the info I can get on driving jobs overseas, companies that hire drivers, living conditions, pay and anything else I can learn that any of you may have information on.
