A lot of us on this site have been around the world two or three times, and most of us have worked with the same OBO guys on many projects. We see them, most know us for our quality, and attitudes, and many are as serious about their jobs as we are as serious about our trades, and will help us if we are in error...sometimes, if we know them well enough, we turn the other way while we each fix our mistakes, and at the same time, they will write letters of recomendation to our bosses...We eat with them, argue with them, drink with them...just to get a product out to meet the ridiculous standards some pencil pusher dreams up.
I was at SA-6 today, which is the OBO headquaters located in DC, for several different construction disciplines, when I noticed an Obituary for Duncan Ross pinned to a cork board. Duncan was an OBO electrical engineer. He apparently came down suddenly with pancreatic cancer in November 2007, while working in Berlin. He went in for some chronic pain, and died shortly therafter. I had the chance to work under him in Frankfurt, and he was fair, and knew his stuff. May he rest in peace.:cheers He was a good guy.
Perhaps what we need, as goulish as this may sound, is a forum for members that have passed, possibly with links to their address, or something. That way, we can remember our friends...
Better yet, we can have a "Hall of Valhalla" forum, or page, for rats that have passed on to and have taken the next work order in the sky... I can think of Robert Fairley, and Bill Blanton as being members, and I can count on and on the bro's that have passed.
Just kick it around amongst yourselves for a while, it's an easy way to remember your friends.
