I am in shock. I have lost one of my best friends in this overseas business...
I met Robert in '93 on Kwaj, and it seemed like every job I was ever on since, I ran into Robert...you could always count on him for his humor and his friendship.
R.I.P. brother.

From Roberts wife, just sent to me, from Roberts computer...
Hello, I wanted to let you know that Robert passed away todayOct. 21,07 at 11:50am. He had been in the hospitalhere at home for the last 2 weeks. When I took him Ihad no ideal that I wouldn't bring him back home. OnThursday Oct. 18,07 the Dr.'s told him that there wasnothing else that they could do for him so he acceptedit and was in good spirits about it. I took it thehardest but he was very strong for me. He knewsomething was wrong on Saturday Oct. 20, 07 that hecouldn't breath. So he got worst this morning and Ihad to make that decision to take him off the By-papbreathing machine not the life support machine. Hewill be missed by many and trust me he talked andloved all you guys. I am going to have the visitationand funeral all in one day. It will be WednesdayOct.24,07 at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point,Ms starting at 10:00. I apologize if I have forgottenanyone but if you could pass it on to all his friendsthat knew him. Again thanks for all the support andprayers.Donna Fairley

Really sorry to hear about Robert... I'm sure Robert's wife, Donna Fairley, would love to hear from us and know that he is in our thoughts and prayers. You can contact Donna at goula11@yahoo.com
Shock. I'm sitting here and just can't believe it--just when we all thought he was going to beat it. I only had the pleasure of working with Robert on one project but he sure was a lot of fun to be around. Oh how I remember him giving the FE's a hard time. I'd love to hear one of his patented dog grunts one last time.
Robert, our prayers are with you and your family.

I worked with Robert on Roi, he was truely one of the good guys and will be missed very much by his family and friends. You could always count on him to bring a smile to your face.
I worked with him in Russia and on Roi. He was like a brother to me and was the best damm pipe welder that I have every had the honor to weld with. Since I am home I am going down for the funeral I will let Donna know how much he will be missed and how much he meant to all of us.

stunned silence is about all I can muster.
I met Robert in Managua. As a female CST he was so courteous and helpful to me since this was my first post. He will be missed by so many people, including me. I lost my husband 7 years ago to cancer so I can truly say I know what you are going through. If you need someone to talk to, I am here for you.

wow, I had heard and hoped that he was going to pull through, just a couple weeks ago. I'm flabbergasted. My heart sinks. I've worked with Robert on multiple jobs. He was always there with a quick pinch at the back of your legs when sneaking up on you, a laugh, and a WEALTH of knowledge in his craft. He was also there whenever you need an extra hand.
He'll be missed dearly. I sent some flowers and I hope that everyone else does as well. That room should be an international floral display from people all over the planet.
RatBro, if you are going to the funeral let me know, and I'll be there as well, either way give me a call ASAP.

Messages emailed to me in reply to the "Robert Fairley, We'll Miss You" email:
He was my supervisor for the embassy project in Yerevan , Armenia. We really tore up the clubs and spent lavishly out there in 2004. It was good to see him before Zachry sent him out to Managua. I'll miss him.
Please send my condolences to the family. I did not know him, but I hate to see any of us who slaved hard overseas pass away.
Thank you.
Hey HR,
Robert was my room mate in Kwajualan when we were working for J.A. Jones on the power house on Roi Nemur.
Do you have any more information about what happened?
(taypow1)
I only got to know Robert a bit on the Embassy job in Managua. He was indeed a really great guy and really knew his trade. I don't recall him complaining about anything or having a bad word to say about anyone. I just recall the humor. He was always teasing me about something, which always put a smile on my face. He will be missed but not forgotten.

I worked with Robert and can tell you he was a craftsman and perfectionist. He never did anything half assed or crooked. He was also a gear head. I have never seen anyone on a job have such an array of tools. He would loan you anything as long as you returned it. Just a superb craftsman. More like him are needed.

Robert was always there for a good laugh. I met him many years ago on Roi when we used to sit outside of the mess hall and talk about people as they walked or rode past on their bicycles. He was funny as shit. Robert was one of those folks who didn't need a last name for anyone to remember him. Just the mention of the name 'Robert' brought only one person to mind. He was that effective. I can still clearly picture him to this day, and it 's been at least 10 years since I last saw him. And he still makes me smile. :rm
Rest in peace, my brother.

Hope that the flowers I sent made it on time. He will be dearly missed.
Sorry this has taken so long, I have been experiencing technical difficulties with the site for some reason.
I attended Roberts funeral wednesday. I talked to his family and let them know how much he will be missed in the overseas community and how much he meant to all of us. Donna really appreciated being able to come on the site and see all the post. She was blown away by what was said about Robert. The family did have one request. The wanted me to send them any pic that I had of Robert overseas. If anyone has any pics please send them to me with a brief description of where the pic was taken and what was going on, if applicable. Send them to hohskier@hotmail.com and I will forward them on. Thanks
