Hi fellow Rats? Sorry i havent posted in some time ,anyway i heard a rumor the other day and have been wondering if anyone else has heard the same?
Rumor has it,or so i have heard from a long time overseas Embassy hand, that the money these days is being diverted to Iraq for obvious reasons. Could this be a part of the change in thinking or am i way off base here? Could this be why we arent first choice any longer? What do you all think?
Just curious about this,if it is a true fact then the future doesnt look so good as far as us U. S. workers to me

Also as a side note,if you are or have been experiencing heartburn more than usual dont just pass it off as being just that, especially it it radiates else where youre jaw, shoulder, back etc. !! It could very well be a heart attack in the making, ask me how i know, all i can say is i havent felt this good in years!
My main point guys and gals, just be aware of symtoms and have it checked out throughly, not just a little but throughly!
Stay safe and healthy,, Low Range------used to be Shedster

Well, if you've looked at the offers to go to Iraq, for the MOST PART, you will see that rumor is false. If they are diverting all this money, it sure as hell isn't getting down to the workers.

MAKE $104K a year:

The hourly rate for the Communications Technician (COMM/EL) position is
$18.00 per hour; with uplifts the adjusted hourly rate is $31.50. The work
week is at 84 hours per week (12 hours per day 7 days per week). While you
are in Iraq the first 40 hours of each work week are paid at $31.50 per
hour; the remaining 44 hours of each week are paid at $18.00. The hourly
rate of $18.00 is paid for any holidays and during your R&R. The potential
earnings for this position is $104,000.00.

I'm thinking $31.50 before the uplifts and less hours.

Uh, so, that makes NO SENSE to me, I would think they would want it to be the other way around, to start with, so that people are not knocking off the rest of the week because they've made the majority of the weeks money, but yeah, 31.50, base pay, then add in my uplift.

I would say the rumor is just an excuse, because, as thejester said, it's not going to the workers. Sounds like gas companies making record sales, but the prices of gas to the consumer tripled.

My response exactlly, I laughed as I replied, "Are you serious", looks good the 104K until you read the rest.

The hourly wage sucks but the pay structure is in line with Department of State guidelines; 35% Hardship allowance and 35% Danger pay. Also per DoS guidelines, these uplifts only have to be paid on the first 40 hours; anything over 40 is paid at the base rate (in this case the $18.00/hour).

I'm on the same setup but my base rate is a lot better. And I can tell you this....the money is still here.
