I have worked in kwaj. in the late 80's. Getting a clearance for myself is unbelievable, unreal. Are there any overseas jobs out there anymore which do not require these special clearances?? Thank you, Steve Leonzal

There are some posted just recently that do not require a clearance
There are some, but they don't pay too good. Of course, if you worked on Kwaj, you know all about shitty pay! I was there about the same time frame, in the FOM weld shop, then the Marine Dept weld shop.

Come on, guys, take it easy on the new guy! We don't want to chase him away!
Unfortunately, working in a situation like Kwaj got you interested in the overseas "lifestyle". But....as you have found out, there's not a lot of opertunities for non cleared personel. These type of jobs started to dry up just as I got into the overseas gigs, in the mid 80's. Most companies will use non Americans if they can, because their pay expectation is WAY below ours. Your best bet would be to get in with any company that will get you your clearance, no matter how bad the pay. Then, you can move around from there. Zachry was doing that for the Beijing job, but that's mostly finished, now. There might be some opertunities in Iraq for uncleared people, with like KBR, and those bottom dwellers, but you will get seriously abused. There's just not a lot of opertunities for non cleared workers to make good money in the overseas market these days, I'm sorry to say.

suprise - suprise
MORE WORK AVAILABLE FOR NON CLEARED THEN CLEARED.
You just have to dig harder, most of the work talked about on our site here is
:rockwoot: cleared american overseas workers.
A lot of general construction work, it is not required to have a government clearance of any kind. Just do not give up keep looking, :AR15 Iraq, Afghanistan, Saudi, Dubai, etc. etc. keep looking.

I always thought that framers, sheetrockers, tapers and painters we're a vital part of the job.I guess the sparkies fix their own goof ups and can make it look good enough for government work. HA!!! You are right though, Me and another Tradesman had to Train a guy how to hang sheetrock just so he could become foreman!!! You are right man.

More and more, I only see 1 or 2 painters on projects, and for short times too...they might just have them in the PCC...the rest of the project is done by locals. Most of the time, they have 1 or 2 guys that do all the finish and clean-up, sweeping, move materials around type of work. By the last room, they've got their technique down, and the wall doesn't look as wavy as the first one they did... it's a damn shame, but finish is low on the contractors list of priorities...

I am an electronics tech w/nearly 30yrs experience in everything from TV repair to cable systems to satellite equipment to VHF transmitters; BUT I do not have a security clearance and I DO NOT have military experience.
I have been trying to get on w/KBR of nearly 2months. I have submitted my resume to over 400 positions and have gotten nothing.
Am I wasting my time here, i.e. looking for overseas work, since I am not ex-military and do not have a security clearance?
I really need to know, because my current job is likely going to go away later this year; I have got to get a different job, and I need the kind of pay I see referenced on this board, but if I am wasting my time looking overseas, I need to know.
Also I am going thru a Chapter 13 bankruptcy, as a result of a divorce, so I bet that I won't even be able to get a clearance, even if someone hired me and tried to get me set up w/a clearance.
What says the board?

As you are a newbe on our site, and seem to need a job bad, I will give you limited info. but try to help some.
Bankruptcy is - no doubt about it - a bad mark for recieving a security clearance - it shows a maybe person needing money and may sell secrets????!!!! Not my determination but disco.:wtf
Get in your truck drive over to the KBR recruiting site in Texas - set thru their little deal - and start out working in the states if you have too. I will give you one more place t0 try Zackry ask them about the grassroots TXI cement plant in New Brunsfield Texas.
Thats about all I can give you friend, good luck.

Thanks Bro. Also what is "Zackry"; and what is "the grassroots TXI cement plant in New Brunsfield Texas."?
Thanks again for the info; and from your commentary, it would seem to me that I am wasting my time with this issue. I that you general thought?
Thanks again,
Greg

Zachry is HB Zachry out of San Antonio, they do mucho business in Texas. They did some overseas work and some embassy project, like Cambodia, China, Nicaragua & Ecuador, plus maybe a few others, but the are getting out of the international work, so they say. You can't just go and get a clearance, you need to be sponsored by a company that's job requires it and then they will submit your paper work, you may get an interum fairly soon, but the full clearance can take awhile.
As for finances, that can be the killer. I know one guy who had his pulled because he was in arrears for child suport.

gabriele - answered part of your question.
Grassroots - means a project from bare ground to production. Not a remodel are re-build, but brand new from scratch.
TXI is the customers name, the plant will be in New Brunsfield. Friend you have a long row to hoe, I can only suggest you get a job and keep pecking away for an overseas gig.
