Hi! I'm a typical RPI member. I signed up a few months ago. When I registered, a new thread was generated for me. It posted that I was new here, and looking around for work overseas. A couple of guys responded back and welcomed me to the site. But I never replied to any of them. Instead, I started a new thread, called "were can I get a job?"
After being told I needed to be a subscriber to get the info on what's going on where, and by whom, I broke out my Visa and reluctantly paid up. Lo and behold! So many company contacts! I made a generic cover letter, attached my resume to it, and sent it to every email address I could find without even personalizing the name of the person I sent it to. I just put "Dear HR Manager,..." I was pretty pissed when 2 or 3 of the hundred or so emails I sent came back as undeliverable. So I voiced my disapproval in some random thread.
But, I did get hooked up on this really sweet gig in some country where we only get shot at a few times a week. It hasn't been too bad sharing a hotel room with two other guys, after all, we all stand to make more than six grand a month if the project is completed ahead of schedule (otherwise we don't get our bonus...).
I also got an offer from another company for when I leave here, but I'll never make that info public, because that would mean more competition for the job I'm after.
So here's to me, and here's to screwing you!
Sincerely,
Your Typical RPI Member
