A member a while ago, Private Messaged me saying that we should list the Acronyms of some of the overseas work lingo.
I'd like to have this thread be just that, and have them be SERIOUS Acronyms.
To most with experience, we speak an almost "foreign" language that a lot of people can not understand.
Here are a couple examples, add yours too it:
CAC - Controlled Access Center
SSA - Secured Storage Area
CAW - Cleared American Worker
etc
This would be a lot more fun if they weren't "serious" acronymns... you know us all too well, HR. Here are some:
ACF- Access Control Facility
CAG- Cleared American Guard
CST- Construction Security Technician
OBO- Overseas Building Operations (State Dept.)
NOB- New Office Builiding
NEC- New Embassy Compound
TCN- Third country National
The Wild Rover

PCS...Permanent Change of Station (scenery for some)
TDY...Temp. Duty Station
UFAS... Uniform Federal Accesibility Standards
PCC...Post Communication Center
NOX...New Office Annex, (usually USAID)
Expat...Expatriot, meaning not a patriot to the host country
CONUS...Continental United States
RSO...Regional Security Officer
DCM...Deputy Chief of Mission (#2 , sometimes, behind the Ambassador)
CAA...Cleared American Access (Americans with clearance only, or escorted FSN's)
FSN...Foriegn Service National (Host country/cleared personel employed by US State Dept.)
VAR...Visit Authorization Request (paperwork from US Govt. allowing you clearance to enter US projects. Your clearance level and date, SS#, employer criteria, etc.)
Question...For cleared American workers, how did they get CLU. I've been overseas for 15 years, and I hear this one, with different meanings all the time.
