View Full Version : Health Insurance
Good Day,
My question today is: Who would you recommend for a Health Insurance provider? Sometimes when I go overseas the company I work for dose not provide Health Insurance only e-vac.

Not totally sure any more. We've even thrown around the idea of putting together a health care package provided by Rat Pack International so that you don't have to bounce from company to company insurance or loose it when not working, but the interest, or input levels, have not been very responsive.
I would say CIGNA if any.

What about International SOS, had them or some plan they worked with in Cambodia. Kwaj started using Aetna's overseas plan, not sure how good it was other then at Kwaj. I think the issue was if they would cover evacuation if needed

I live overseas and use Multinational Underwriters Inc. http://www.mnui.com/
I use them for my health insurance and have filed a claim before, they were responsive and paid off in a timely manner. Evacuation insurance also is part of it. There are several international providers get on the net and research which one fits your needs. http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/health/health_1185.html#insurance has a listing of providers. You need to be careful when you go to work for some of these companies they may have insurance but it's no good out of the country or like in the case of Blue shield will cover you for no more than 3 months out of the country. Don't assume the company knows how good their coverage is, it's always a good idea to the ask questions and research the answers.
Good luck

Which brings up a closely related topic..life insurance fm the company you work for doesn't always cover you (if you sustain an injury or death resulting from a combat or hostile area incident) read the fine print and ask a lot of questions so you don't sign up for (uneeded insurance). In the same area some insurances don't cover you if you die out of that foreign country. Yeah ask alot of questions and if you are still not sure get a paid lawyer to review the contract. It only costs $5-10 a page to legal proofread these documents after the first 5 free pages with most reputable law firms. Don't make a costly mistake and leave your loved ones hangin'. The old vets and expats passed this on to me...passin' it on as well.

I and a couple others have tried hard to get our bro rats to come on site and let us know about getting group insurance, for every one that wanted it. We could only dig up interest by a handful of folks.
I spent a lot of time on the project, I can tell you it is not a simple task,
plus no one really wants to carry us, and trying to get a deal set up where everyone plus contractors contribute is next to impossible.
We ran a poll on here for quite awhile but not much action. You want to try again? Go ahead and do the research and let us know. You should not use the ratpack name in your research.
The air evac. insurance carried by a lot of companys, will get you in a bind. Last year I had several attacks, I had to be fly to a heart hospital for open heart, the flight wa 11,000.00 us and 6 months later the ins. co. finally paid 4700.00/??????? The policy said no NO deductable, but????????
Kind of like the ratpack vacation we are putting to gether, have either of you went to that thread and commented? If not please do so.:wtf
Take Care

To me this is the most useful bit of knowledge that everyone should be made aware of. Unless i read it wrong,it is--mandatory-- for companys to carry this. period..
In my limited dealings so far,it seems that there could be a lot of contractors out there that are unaware of this --requirement--
Check it out and see what you think. :2cents
From what I have found out so far is that a employer only has to provide SOS or evac insureance. I can not find covarage under $150 for myself while over seas. I willl keep up the search and let you all know.
