Good Day Rats,

My question today is this: I have a TS Clearance and it needs to be renewed. I was going to work for Deco and they had me fill out all the paper work to get it renewed. I now the paper work is in the pipeline and that my clearance is in an active state even though it is spouse to be expired. If I choose to go to another company what will happen to my clearance? Will it just go to the other company and the renewal will continue through? Or will my renewal package be stopped until the other company picks it up? If you know please let me know. I have a friend who works on clearance package trying to find out as well so if you are in the same boat I will get an answer sooner or later.

Just wanted to know. How does one obtain a clearance period?...I was in the military and my specialty did not require a clearance of any kind. In what direction or company would u recommed as a start?

Well Simcarson,

I am not sure of your skill trade so what ever it is I would look in to a company that that uses it. Such as Security Trade you might go with Deco or USIS. Then they should get you a clearance if they are willing to hire and pay for it. USIS I have heard is more willing to pay for a personal clearance. Look under Company contacts and there are tones of company's most that work with clearance personal. Call them up and talk with them. Hope it helps.

Clearances are given when you require one for the job. Look for a job that requires one (sign up here and look inside at the companies), the company should sponsor you and get you on the paperwork trail. If yours expired it may be a little faster in getting one.

Thanks for the prompt response guys. I see what your saying, but for the most it seems as most companys want cleared personal to apply only. They appear to have little or no intrest in non cleared folks (we come a dime a dozen!). My specialty is in HVAC. Which of the companys would you personally recommend to me from the list of companys on this site? I've been trying to squeeze clearance info from my brother that works at the pentagon, but he's says in brief, if you donnt get it while in the military you have to have a in demand specialty. Anymore input on that??

you don't need to be in the military or have gotten one while in the military. If a company requires because of the work they are doing they can have you apply for one through them as your sponsor, if you move to another company then the new company can pick up you as a sponsor. It gets more complicated and you need to talk with the security rep for your company.

I got my secret security clearance as an MP while I was in the Army. I had that upgraded to a Top Secret security clearance to do construction out in Beijing. One was military the other was a government contractor.

Guys

As most of you know, you can get a interim TS, from start to work in only a few days same with a secret.

The interim is like a temporary clearance it allows you to go work while they are finishing up the real deal. To get a TS you must be sponsired by a TS company, and for a secret you must be sponsired by a secret or TS company.

Of course you have several deptments with different clearances like doa - dos, and there are different levels of secret and ts, some you need to take a lie detector exam, some a phy exam..

Also some secrets allow you to do some TS work, it really goes on and on.
I heard a little while ago an interim could be had in 8 to 10 days.

I am sure not an expert on clearances, but these are the basic rules.

I believe that suitability is a part of the clearance process, your best bet is to check with your company's security group, that processes and oversees the clearances for their employees.

OK, here's a link on clearances, it should answer how what and etc:

:banghead :banghead SSI just back with me today on the clearance thing. They're telling me I need to be a local resident in order for them to sponser me for a clearance or willing to work on one of their local projects while the clearance is in process. thats not the impression the company president gave me when i talked to him. Anybody had a similar problem with SSI?:banghead

Shit, I just signed on with local company here in Georgia offering descent pay.
Don'nt know I would want to relocate to the virginia area all for the sake ok a clearance.

Don't know about SSI, but I had issues with my processing, saying I was overseas and couldn't investigated, etc, even though I was working on US government sites, but the issue was mostly not being in the US while they were investing my background, never had ant say I had to be a resident of a certian state. Perhaps they just wanted you close to them.

When my TS was going thru, the investigator came out to Kwaj just to interview me.

When my TS was going thru, the investigator came out to Kwaj just to interview me.

I think it all depends on what year(s) it was, how many different places you have lived in the past years (seems they are only going back 7 years now, one I had went back to the day I born and I wasn't a young pup then). So when you hear "I got mine back in a few months, you gotta look at how complicated your background is or isn't. I was at Kwaj when my last clearance was granted, no one came out, had to keep resubmitting part of my package. I was told that the system that does the investigating was over worked, loaded up. Word came back that they wouldn't investigate overseas because manpower was too low to do so, etc. One company even was going to resubmit my paperwork to get it from interim to perm and they were told they couldn't do it, the system wouldn't allow it as I already was in the system and I was going through adjudication. Add to that if you have any issues in your background that needs further investigating (never know what someone might say about you). So just because you get yours sooner then another persons, backgrounds differ.

Well, I've never had a clearance of any kind period. So I take they'll have to start from ground zero on me. My thing is that I want a clearance (TS if I can get it). And if SSI was to come back an offer me work in the DC metro in order for them to begin processing my clearance. Is it worth relocating? The clearance thing may take years, and who knows if It'll get granted anyways. So all of it is a risk/gamble.

The recruiter is supposed to to be getting back with me on 2/26 in the A.M. about their local projects. Again, Is it really worth relocating for? Is the money really that much better because of a certain clearance level? I know over here in Georgia where I live there are no clearance jobs I've seen. It's always either Dc metro or international earns the big bucks.:butt :master

Depends where you are, I know several places in Georgia that require a clearance, think Air Force.

To decide if it is worth working out of state?????

1 - How bad do you want a clearance?
2 - What is the pay.
3 - What is the per deim.
4 - Do you wish to be away from your family for long periods of time?

Many things to consider, I have had a clearance since the mid 60s, never heard of having to be in a certain state to get processed. My home is in Arkansas and I was wotking in California when I applied, no problem then at all.

My last one I was working all over the US & overseas, no problem.

Check into the be in state deal, maybe they want to check you out stateside before they spend the time and trouble to back you for a clearance.:wtf

Mexfish, I know of several companies that require you to live near where their offices are because when you aren't working overseas they expect you to be in their offices daily, that would be the only reason I see as requiring a person to be in the paticuler state. But that shouldn't/wouldn't be a requirement to get the clearance.

I wrote SSI director a email asking for answers. I'll see what happens. Anyways, been offered a couple positions overseas. Contracting companys seem to be in love with 85k. They have to be kiddin! They suckered a lot of desperate folks who work for shit like that I see. Overseas?..Naw! Even if I donnt have 20yrs+ experience its got to be worth it to me. First of all paying for the fact I'm willing to leave my family for a year with BS intervals home. Second, a salary/package that'll at least halfway keep me motivated to work 12hrs/7days without depending on overtime to make a descent salary (Base pay). Third, treat you like a person not a number (Could've stayed in the military for that). And a couple other issues I can'nt recall at the moment. I know I sound choosey. But, in the past I've been happier and more productive if it's my way. Thats me.:la:
