I hold a TS as well as a red badge for nuke work. The NRC doesn't use the same clearance system as the DOD and State Dept.

security jobs outside of Iraq and Afghanistan for people with security clearances?

There are WAY more clearance-required jobs outside Iraq and Afghanistan than inside. Working for Embassy construction companies, working directly for DoS, working for other various "Departments", etc. The vast majority of jobs in Iraq and Afghanistan don't require clearances.

There are many different class's of security clearance - your class will usually depend on the firm sponsoring you.

Some firms are only secret not top secret, so they can only spoinsor you for a secret clearance, nuc power houses can only sponsor you for their work and not for dos or dod work.

Example the ol JA Jones was only a secret company so they sponsored secret clearance's.

Normally and I say normally, to work embassy construction overseas the most you would need is a ts, only certain areas require rider's such as poly etc. But if you got a chance i would not turn the rider's down.

Then you have the temp. or pending secret & top secret, a lot of these were started and not completed, China is a good example of that.

Seems as I learn something different about the clearance factor, quite often.

Any idea on some security companies that are hioring right away. I applied for Dynacor but haven't heard from them for such a long time.

If I'm in China and the job ends or I go home what becomes of my "pending" clearance?

We have had several run ins with this at the company I currently work with. If you do not complete your contract with Zachry, in China, I am afraid the arrangement they have with the State Dept. clearing agency is thus...no clearance processed.
This does not mean you do not have one, just that it will have to be re-applied for. If a company has an interest in you, easy. If you do not have a company willing to wait for 6 months...you are back at the beginning, before you had a clearance.

If I complete my contract what will happen in your opinion?

What do you suggest I do if I would like to continue this type of work?

You will have a TS clearance. But it will be good for 2 years. Within that 2 year timeframe, you have to find a contractor "pick you up" , or take over maintenance of your clearance, or hire you. If you do not do this, you will loose it. Jeez dude, you went to the shithole of unskilled trades job...they are offering you a clearance, a TS too, basically because you breathe. I would suck it up, do my time, and get out and find a firm willing to hire you. If you are just a helper, you have a small chance, but maybe someone will hire you and train you, but don't look for the big bucks for years. If you are a legitimate journeyman, you can be easily picked up..or not. It's all a crapshoot man.

I have Masters licence and yes I do not need be reminded about the skill level I am working with. I am new to the overseas game and not very happy. I also never quit a job. I will do my time and hope for the best. I just wanted to find out what my options were. Thank you.

Rover, is right on track. China was a fucking mess, they had to have a dealio with state, because the interm TS, were coming thru in such a short time. Sure to be many sad folks when they realize it is not that simple in real life. We have had many disapponted folks on here lookin for which way to go, and I think we have been honest with them, some times the truth hurts like hell. :rockwoot: Not to many overseas jobs hire, helpers, rod-busters, labors,
form carpenders, glazers, stucko hands, only technical craftsmen. :wtf I have on several post suggested to people get a job state side, and keep on the trail of overseas work. From what I know of the wages paid there, I do not see how any money could be saved for 6 mo. off looking for "another of the same". Get a "dam job guys", and hang in here with us on site, the project contractors will be on here as soon as they are let and the contact info. will also be on site for our subscribers. I wish all of you guys good luck.

Geez, hard to say. I would think that the companies listed on this site would be a god place to start, but I don't think you can go out and get a clearence, it must be on a need to have so the companies would get you started on this path. Find a job that requires a clearence, see if they will/can use you on an interum as the complete your background, if not then you will have to wait until it is completed.

My understanding on the Beijing project that the DOS gave out temporary TS's for that project, so you want to get one that wil be perm.

I know there are others better equipped here that can you better answers.

Good luck

I would stay after companys like KBR, Fluor, Contrack, they have a lot of non cleared openings. Just an idea, to get you up & running.

Well since the LOGCAP stuff has finally gotten squared away you might be able to get on with Fluor if they have non cleared positions.
