When we go overseas to work for an American contractor what are the requirements on the contractors to provide insurance for us? I'm talking about everything from medivac insurance to worker's compensation. If I am hurt on the job, what does the company have to do for me? If I'm not on the jobsite and get hurt what is the company's liability? Anyone got the straight scoop?

Come on guys, somebody has to have some information on this. Maybe some of the company reps can help me out. Short of that maybe somebody can make something up.

The insurance thats availible to all and that the contractors HAVE to carry is called the Defense Base Act Insurance. I have recently found all this out and i am now aware that their --private insurance- that most companys have is the normal rip-off and then some.
As far as time loss and being paid for such as well as doctor bills etc. they will try and run it through the home state that the company is based out of and go by the guidlines of L@I. NO CAN DO!!!!!!!!!!!
Just mention DBA Insurance and be sure that it gets directed to them, again they HAVE to carry this for overseas workers but they may neglect to tell you that or may not even know about it.
Look it up on the computer on google or if you need --free-- very proffessional help contact this guy,,he knows all about it and how it all works etc. and is very mean ,,in a good way.

This is what this guy handles and a person should keep his number on file i would suggest, they should be on the google site under DBA insurance as well:blahslap

Hey Sasquatch,
I am interested in this insurance thread too, but I hope that statement doesn't mean you've had an accident, or are having health problems.

Natch, thanks for your concern. I am going to the docs today. I think I dropped a nut in Iceland. Going to see he hernia specialist today. I am still waiting for some paper work from the office. May be interesting.
I need some advice. I am already getting a run around from my office about this injury I sustained on the job. I didn't go to the Doc in Iceland but informed the office and saved the email. What if I get the run around? Who can I contact?

Sasquatch, Same thing happened to me in Albania in 05 with Morrison , doctor there said for me to go to the states and have it taken care of , they paid me 700 each way for travel , plus 80 percent of my wages the 10 days i was gone , this was thru DBA insurance , no hassles ! Just be sure and document EVERYTHING ! and also have the accident report from the employer signed .
Morrison was a good place to work in that they took care of you at any time, never bullshit with a paycheck ever !! :rockwoot:
After some of the dust settled i went back there for Hitt Const. and got a - sigh attic - whatever thing in my leg that i was told by the doc there to wait till i went home to get that taken care and not to even think about any one there doing anything with it. So i put up with it.
To make the long story longer, when it came time to pay up, their insurance company -- Zurich -- did everything possible to make things very difficult, to put it mildly !!!!!! This was in April of this year.
I am still waiting for payment --time loss-- at this time, and that is when i contacted Mark Schaffer as it says above.
You may think about doing the same it sounds, L@I per week isnt even close to DBA and they have to carry that wheather they want to or not.
Off Topic some------ does anyone know the channels to go through so i can get my end of job bonus as promised , Hitt wont even answer my calls it appears, Tom M is no longer with the company i was told so i went to the top and no luck ! A deal is a deal to me . :nono:
