I worked for Avaya from 11/2005 until June 30, 2006 when they contract completed me and another term tech. Now I heard they are laying off 130 techs. I started with a company on a maor FAA project based in Florida, but waiting for an overseas project to start up.

25 Years plus Union electrician and have always worked one trade...for me the only trade I enjoy and truly love. Never had to work in another trade, always made well over 100G/ year for the past 15 years working overseas, and done with a good reputation at the end of the job. You don't have to do another trade if you are truly skilled and adept at one. Many on this site know me, and I feel confident enough to say I'm good at what I do...because I care about the end product, as I believe many skilled tradesmen in the other crafts feel about their work also. I wouldn't want to fumble with another trade anyhow, as I believe many more are higher skilled and better trained in their trades than I am...I'm not going to install drywall or try pipe-fitting, or attempt HVAC... and as it is, there is so much changing daily with the advancements technically in the electrical field, I enjoy this trade, I RESPECT it too much to do anything else...I was told by an old timer, back in '82...try to learn something new everyday, and you'll be happy with your trade. That's good advice I have followed, and lived by. And besides, the damn dumbass HR jerks and project managers should plan better, so the correct tradesmen are on the project. WE SHOULD DEMAND It as taxpayers, and I believe our country deserves the best, so the contractors should pay them right and you'll get the quality you need. The job is BID this way, so the jobs should be BUILT this way!!! Any job where the correct tradesmen are not present, just means the contractor didn't want to spend the money...so I guess thats just My opinion:cheers .

Man, it is really hard to be a skilled carpenter, and I am glad to hear another tradesman is happy just doing his craft, and it sounds like you like doing it too bro...there are so many guys that say they are carpenters, and don't even know how to use a square. I'm glad to hear your busy:cheers

Well i have not been doing it as long as the other post but have been in the field for 13 years now. Worked for At&T and Lucent as well then some local companies in Texas, a few other things also. Nothing to brag about, its the quality of you work not the quality of your voice.

Boy what a kick in the butt about the house. We had that happen to us 2 years ago in Dec 23 and I was leavin for Beijing Jan 20. Lived in the rent house for some 10 years and thought that we we're going to get to buy it and the Landlord sold it to a nephew out from under us, and to top it off the ole boy has never moved into it. We only had 34 years of married life and 27 years of business to move. It really put a good start to my 1st Int.job. Well anyway KEEP ON THE SUNNY SIDE OF LIFE!!!!
