View Full Version : Job Pre requisite

Hey Guys,
I have noticed a lot lately that there has been a bit of confusion flying around when a contractor has a job, or positions available to place on the site, and naturally 60 people jump in on the guy, some asking legitimate questions, some asking ridiculous questions, some people that might have a history with the contractor putting their two cents in, some people getting way off topic...all normal for a website this big.
but...
I think what we need to do is come up with a type of form, and a new forum only edited by site management, listing the Contractor, the project, the position/skill/clearance needed, craft requirements, availability, the location, the pay (general, or negotiable), contractor contact #'s and contact e-mails, job conditions, job duration, special comments section, price of beer, living accomodations, per diem available, tools required, ect., all filled out by the prospective contractor. This will clear up several things.
1) What we need to know. Bottom line.
2) This will eliminate the discouragement a contractor may feel by being questioned by 140 guys about if it's ok to wear their apron to work, or if their Mongolian girlfriends dance partner can come, because he knows how to spell clearance... and by starting to address issues WE need to have addressed, without all the BS, name calling, and general not knowing what the hell is going on.
3) This will put everything at a Rats paw-tips, and eliminate different stories or posts spread about the site.
4) This puts the power of negotiating up front, everything on the table, at one quick reference...back into the Rat's little paws.
5) there are going to be a few things contractors might not fill out, but that may be up to some discretion, as they have to compete against each other too for the projects...we'll have to work this out.
!!!This does not mean we can't ask the contractor questions in our forums, and it does not let anyone off the hook, it just eliminates some of the BS!!!

This proposition will clear up a bit of confusion. We could even put a "position filled" line, and just stash the forms in a seperate folder, so that referrence may be made on future projects, or for future reference by a craftsman in the job bidding/resume process.
Let me know what you think, and we'll each work on it till we get it right... but because I can count on my two hands the people that will respond to this, I'd like to hear from the newbies, your opinion counts too as a way we all can better this site. The only stupid questions are the ones you do not ask.
See you on the next big one.

I think you have come up with a good idea. It sounds good to me.

I like this idea as well, have seen some pretty unfounded "attacks" recently.

Rover, this is just one of many great ideas you've had. This will settle down some of the confusion over what's what and this and that.

Kudos to you!!

I think you do have some good points here. A little more discussion among the board members as to how much limitation should be placed on whom?

RE - haardline, I think there was too much pressure put on him about items he has no controll over.

We will have to be very careful of limitations on our members. I would reccomend the form started on.

From Mexfish:
"We will have to be very careful of limitations on our members. I would reccomend the form started on."

Hey mexfishy,
I think the site limitations the membership have in place right now, might suffice. Although I think Headrat will have to limit anyone but possibly site support, and or the person/contractor submitting the "work order" (as a union man, that's the word for it) from changing or adjusting the form, to protect the sites integrity. We can all still comment on the issue, just can't change the form without headrat's Ok..ok.
And yeah, the re about hardline is why this is a good idea guys. Some of the posts are all over the site, and I can't really get a feel for the bottom line...the money. This form might just clear up those type of issues...some guys work for the bread, some just for the head kinda thing... This might put to rest some of those issues.

Thats a great idea I was kinda wondering how long this was going to last with the blow ups like I recently read with Hardlin Rob.:sport002: I think it would be a great addition to an awsome Tool.:2cents

I'm thinking the best and easiest way to do all this is to just police the Job posts a little better, sending unrelated 'rants' to other threads.

I don't want to keep people from asking questions, but we all need to police this a little better and police ourselves too. Instead of going off or ranting and raving, we ALL are free to create a new thread. As it stands, it's a free for all and I don't blame some companies for getting a little miffed about it, HOWEVER, I don't want to bend to the companies either.

Rat Pack International is not the place that companies can come and blow sunshine up everyone's butt either. A spade is a spade, some people have had past problems with some companies, but it's not a safe haven for them either.

I'll instruct the others as to how to police better, criteria to keep, and hopefully this will clear some of this up. :cheers

Seem's like you are on top if it.

I do not want to take our guys freedom of print away from them. But I know if a co. has stung us, poked us, and shi- on us, it is not easy to give them a break. Even tho it may be under new direction.

But we ask these folks on site and then gang up on them.not the best way to handle the situation.
