Ok, here is the deal. I'm looking for SERIOUS OBO help or who to contact in OBO to help me. I'm not really looking for what I should or shouldn't do, but serious input and email addresses or phone numbers.
Here is the why:
I'm looking for someone to contract about a major issue dealing with Gilford Construction, the Paris US Embassy, and ME.
I was asked to come there on a contract, spent money out of my OWN pocket to get there, was then turned away for NO REASON, now I'm back in the states.
I can NOT get any responses with emails from Gilford, I've called their office several times, but only get the run around (cause they DON'T know who I am), and have YET to not only be paid for my contract, but to be reimbursed for what I spent out of my own pocket to just get there and live.
Even letters to the office which I have called to discuss the copies of receipts with, have been 'lost' and need to be continually resubmitted.
I need to contact someone NOW that can help me, as I'm also getting a lawyer involved. I believe they think I'll just go away.
Please Advise.
So, now I'm looking for OBO contacts that I can contact in reguards to this to apply more pressure and/or etc.
I too would like to know who to contact. I am in the same boat, JA Jones never paid me MI&E and payroll from 2 years ago. I have gotten the same run around as you.

This would be an instance as to why I'm trying to get a "Rat Pack Attorney", much like the Rat Pack Taxman. Someone to answer questions as to how to pursue these companies that don't "play by the rules", answer questions, and go on retainer if possible.
I'm open to any personal recommendations if someone knows of one that is good.

I mentioned this to a couple of barrister pals of mine, and most suggested getting a labor lawyer familiar with federal labor laws, and also familliar with corporate and employment law...the Contractors would not be too successful without somebody with a little know how writing their contracts, they all want to have a prosperous business, and protect their own interests...remember their #1 rule, "It's not personal, it's business".
All the guys I know said they were not interested, as they were mostly securities and estate law. The labor lawyers' I do know suggested calling a few of the union halls in the area, just to get an idea of who they use or who they might suggest...although if you are not a member, they may hesitate to disclose any info.
Since we are looking at the possibility of having one on retainer(expensive, as the possibilities are endless), or even better using one as a consultant( where we choose the issues to be discussed or addressed on an pay as you go method), we might try the D.C. area...I'm sure the pool is huge, and it would be better for a rep to be close to the action. Just my :2cents
Jester, Emerse, and Roadhard,
I'm on the 'you've been screwed' list too.
I worked for a company called Martek, (Ray and Mary Gibson), on a security upgrade in Helsinki, Finland a few years ago. I got the wages I had coming, but the bastards refuse to pay me my accrued vacation pay. It's not a fortune, it's only around $1200, but it is MY money and they even admit that they owe it to me.
Martek has since closed it's doors due to stupid mismanagement and a lack of comon sense, even though they had a good installation crew. :banghead
If you guys can come up with a way to put the squeeze on these bastards, without it costing me more than I would get back, I'm all ears.
The Gibsons have given me nothing but lies and bullshit.
If I lived closer to Alabama, I'd visit them in the night, throw a burning bag of shit on their porch, and sit back with the video camera.
:cheers

According to one member that replied back to me, I should stop being such a cry baby, it's because of stuff like this that I'm hurting the other workers. To that I ask "so, letting companies walk all over us and get away with it should be acceptable?"
Then again, his profile had him working down in Belize. Enjoy that ROOMMATE, low per diem, and low pay being as you are cutting all our throats in accepting that offer.
With now at least four members being shorted money from either their contracts or agreements we do need to get some legal help--From reading the posts, so far no one has been seriously hurt yet in the pocket, but if we allow this short change crap to continue we will all get hit sooner or later.
As for the "brother" in Beilez--screw him and his opinions! It's members like him that that hurt the rest of the Pack.

I guess I have to ask the question Jester why would you pay your own way? Seems like you were taking a chance to begin with. Never go anywhere unless the company pays your airfare etc.

I guess I have to ask the question Jester why would you pay your own way? Seems like you were taking a chance to begin with. Never go anywhere unless the company pays your airfare etc.Because at the time, I was willing to quit the job I was on and wanted to get the hell out of there. I didn't know that I was going to get bent over when I did.
BUT, the good news is that I'm already talking to an attorney to go after the MF that I have proof SLANDERED me to create all this. Hope he doesn't mind working back in the coal mines and I'm looking forward to the Triumph motorcycle he has being mine. Hope it's a Triple. :rockwoot: Don't worry, I'll post pictures of it being set on fire after I get it in the suit.:cheers

Jester,
I hope you can get their ass.....but I know of many people that have tried and nothing ever became of it. It happens all the time in this business, it has happened to me several times in the last few years alone. NEVER pay your own way, if they need you....they will get you there. In 15 years of working overseas I have yet to pay for my own ticket, I have paid for some penalties for changing dates and paid for some visa extensions but I guess I was lucky to get my money back.
Good Luck and I hope you burn their ASS:AR15

What the f___??!! Who's cutting who's throat? I bet none of those guys paid there own way to Belize! Let me get this straight. You bought your own ticket to Paris, paid for your own room and paid for your meals all out of pocket? Is that correct. Gilford probably could have talked you into working without pay. Geesh. Talk about breaking down conditions. Did you want to go to Paris that bad? Thought you might look good in a beret? I think you owe everybody in RatPack an apology for being such a bonehead. Or at least a better explanation than that sorry excuse about wanting to get away from your last job. By the way , why didn't you get your last employer to fly you to Paris? Didn't they owe you a ticket home? Or do you fly yourself home after every job? Jester , you should be ashamed.

I'm a little confused. Did they tell you they were going to hire you, just show up in Paris? Or that you should go to Paris for an interview, when can you get there?

Since you paid your own way to Paris , I'm assuming you knew that Gilford is paying only 50% of the state dept. alloted per diem. That is ONE-HALF of what you are supposed to be getting!! Now the boys in Belize might be wondering what an acceptable amount of per diem is since you think they are "cutting our throats". Where do you draw the line? 49% ???? 48% ??? It seems you have high standards for everyone except yourself. I want to take a poll. Are there any members out there who have ever paid there own way to a job? Anyone? Thats what I thought. Jester , you stand alone.

Jester , you stand alone. No, it was a here's your signed contract come on over, we'll reimburse. Secondly, yeah, the per diem was half of the state allotted, but not only do we hardly ever get full per diem, the other part, the 1500/month housing allowance ON TOP OF the PER DIEM made up for it, so I wasn't cutting anyones throat, I was SUPPOSED to be getting money hand over fist.
And the fact that I'm not going to let them just screw me over and leave me for dead to do it to anyone else, is another thing. If they see they can do it to me, they'll see they can do it to anyone and so will any other contractor. I'm putting EVERYTHING into getting what I should have gotten in the first place and sending a message.

CHUCK GRASSLY can KISS MY BUT
I have currently got three congressmen willing to help me out on this ordeal that I'm talking to. I got a letter from Grassly saying that my issue was "outside of his scope".
Yeah, I know, he's all about screwing us overseas workers.
